"We recently spent a father and son breakaway weekend at Fijnbos Safaris neer Hopefield in the Westen Cape and it was a spectacular experience. The venue is centrally located and within easy reach of the general metropolitan centra, but the farm is also big enough to really feel as you've stepped into a secluded and remote region of the Cape. Our group consisted of 4 fathers and 5 boys of varying ages thus making our group a bit diverse, but the very accommodating owners of Fijnbos Safaris pulled out all the stops to ensure each of the boys (and their fathers) had a special experience to bond, intermingled with with a good session of general life skills.
Fijnbos Safaris provided generous formal accommodation, but the boys were housed in a stand alone tented camp, with a view over a patch of indigenous finbos unique to this area. The facilities at the camping area were exactly what we required for the boys to enjoy and it matched their expectations and it provided them with a bit of privacy to reflect on some of the activities of the day.
Our hosts further provided the following activities, for our enjoyment:
- General firearm safety training and induction.
- Target shooting (structured as a competition between the fathers and sons).
- Game walks.
- Structured game drives.
- Clay pigeon shooting (the runaway favourite of the weekend).
The general travel on the farm provided its own unique challenges considering the sandy geology of the area, but Fijnbos Safaris generously provided a huge Ford F250 for our general use.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nico, Migael & Andrew that treated us so generously and they provided our sons with a weekend they will remember for a long time. I would highly recommend FIJNBOS Safaris as venue for father and sons to visit to reconnect but also for adventure camps".
